NTU DISMISSES TWO PROFESSORS DUE TO ACADEMIC FRAUD|台大校教評會:8人違學術倫理 2教授解聘

National Taiwan University released stage-two investigation results on an academic fraud scandal. The university decided to dismiss two professors, while clearing NTU president Yang Pan-chyr. The investigation committee believed that Professor Kuo Min-liang "purposefully" added problematic images to the papers and should assume the greatest responsibility The National Taiwan University has its most serious violation on research ethics. The Executive Vice President Kuo Ta-wei showed a 19-page investigation report done by the special committee and he apologized to the public. ==KUO TA-WEI Exe. Vice-president for Academics Research, Nat'l Taiwan Univ.== We had investigated into a total of 17 dissertations including the two withdrawn ones. The two had a large quantity of identical graphics. We believe those were beyond the lines of negligence and misused. Authors should be held liable for violating academic research ethics. Professors Kuo Min-liang and Chang Cheng-chi were both dismissed from the university; Professor Chang had his professor certificate revoked and cannot apply for teaching credential and research subsidy in five years. Postdoctoral research fellow Cha Shih-ting is still under review for her degree. National Taiwan University Hospital Vice Superintendent Lin Ming-tsan is relieved from management level for five years; Associate Professor Tan Ching-ting is disqualified for applying research subsidy for a year; Kuo Yi-hsin, Su Chen-liang and Chen Pai-sheng are holding liable for ethics violations. As to the National Taiwan University President Yang Pan-chry was found not violating academic ethics, and therefore has no need to resign. ==KUO TA-WEI Exe. Should problem occurs, he shall be responsible, he can't escape like this. The decision made by the university's committee will have to submit to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology. But the National Federation of Teachers Unions is asking the Ministry of Education for reinvestigation.
