The government has been pushing for the Long-term Care 2.0 plan as part of its social policy. However, the shortage of caregivers remains a serious issue. The Ministry of Health and Welfare is planning to raise the hourly pay for care workers to NT$200 in hopes of attracting more workers. Some social welfare institutions are also promoting part-time care services to alleviate the labor shortage.
50-year-old Li Hsiu-yeh has been a home caregiver for 5 years and served in 10 families. Her most memorable experience is when a terminally ill cancer patient who did not eat at all started to eat normally and regain the will to live. Helping brings positive changes in people's lives is what is most gratifying about her job.

At least now when she wakes up in the morning, she looks forward to our arrival. She has the courage to live. She doesn't ask me to buy charcoal for her anymore like before.
When it comes to taking care of people, it requires not only professional skill sets but also dedication. The government has been pushing for the Long-term Care 2.0 plan and trying to attract more workers to join the in-home care service industry. Some social welfare institutions are now offering part-time home care services to allow for more flexibility on the job. The Ministry of Health and Welfare is considering raising the hourly pay of home care workers to NT$200.

Nowadays, young people think the hourly salary is too low. If we can offer a higher hourly rate, perhaps more people will be willing to take on this job.

There has always been a gap between training and service. In other words, there is a mismatch. Many people who received training do not actually become care workers.
In order attract more workers and resolve the issue of caregiver shortage, social welfare institutions believe that there needs to be better career planning support that allows in-home care to become a long-term career choice.
