The Republican Party didn't only just win the presidential election, it also won the congress. After sweeping through key electoral districts in states such as Missouri, Pennsylvania and Indiana, the grand old party now enjoys a majority both in the senate and in the House of Representatives. In other words, the golden age for the republicans is about to begin. On November 8, Republican Paul Ryan was re-elected to the U.S. House of Representatives by voters in the Wisconsin district. It is unknown whether the 46-year-old House speaker will stay in his position after January 2017, since a lot of Republicans were upset over Ryan's frigid treatment of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. In October, Ryan made a high profile break with Trump by saying that he would not campaign with or defend him in public. Besides the presidential election, 34 Senate seats and all 435 House seats were up for election on the same day. The Democrats were thought to have a 56 percent chance of retaking control of the Senate before the election. However, Missouri senator Roy Blunt's re-election victory showed the Republican the winner. As predicted, the Republicans will keep control of the House. Enjoying a majority both in the senate and in the House of Representatives, the next four years will represent a golden age for the Republicans. During Trump's presidential campaign speeches, he proposed anti-immigration policies, vowed to repeal the Obamacare, and favored gun ownership. He also said he will relax existing environmental and financial regulations.
