13 CHINESE TOURIST-RELATED INDUSTRIES TO PROTEST LACK OF BUSINESS|陸客人數大減 旅行業擬9/12上街陳情

The number of Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan has dropped to a new low since the Tsai administration took over. Some buildings which were to have been hotels have now been sold. On Sept. 9, the Taipei Association of Travel Agents will hold a protest to call attention to the drop in their industry. The group, comprising 13 categories of Chinese tourism-related businesses including tour guides, retail businesses, B and Bs and hotels, will protest in front of the Presidential Office. It's the largest ever demonstration by the tourism-related industries. The basic-level hotel in front of Kaohsiung Train Station was renovated just last year, but its front door is still closed and has suddenly ceased operations. It's the first hotel in Taiwan to fold since Chinese tourists were allowed to visit Taiwan. ==WU YING-LIANG Director, Kaohsiung Association of Travel Agents== More famous hotels can promote themselves, less well-known ones will lose a client base. If its facilities are not big enough, it will definitely lose out in this downturn. There has been a freeze in Chinese tour groups and large hotels are dropping their prices in the hunt for guests. Kaohsiung Association of Travel Agents estimates that up to the end of this year there will be a clear wave of hotel closures and some office blocks that were originally slated to be turn into hotels have been sold. On Sept. 9, the Taipei Association of Travel Agents will hold a protest on Kategalan Boulevard comprising 13 categories of Chinese tourism related businesses including tour guides, retail businesses, B and Bs and hotels. It applied to the Taipei City Government for the right to hold the protest and will march from Huashan Cultural and Creative Park to the Presidential Office.
