Premier Lin Chuan called a meeting with labor groups and businesses representatives to resolve the debate over the amendment to the Labor Standards Act that requires at least one day off after six consecutive work days, which has been postponed at the end of July. Flexible working hours for certain industries such as media, transportation is also an important topic of the debate. The Ministry of Labor tried to resolve the issue by allowing exceptions to the regulations. However, labor groups said recruiting more labor is the solution. No consensus was reached at the meeting.
Labor groups gathered outside the Executive Yuan in protest of the Labor Ministry's plan to allow exceptions to the new labor law of "one day off after six day's work". They said the Labor Ministry's proposal is virtually the same as the current regulations and vowed to protect labor's rights.

If Lin Chuan cannot to protect the basic rights of workers with the Labor Standards Act, then the DPP administration is not with workers.
A meeting was held to resolve the debate over flexible working hours. Union representatives from various sectors, including media, transportation, and tourism met with Premier Lin Chuan and industry representatives to discuss labor rights. Labor groups insisted that there should be no exception to the new labor law of "one day off after six days work". However, businesses did not agree.

Employers have to allocate their human resources appropriately, instead of using the regulations to their advantage.
==CHEN YI-MEI, Secretary-general, Satellite Television Broadcasting Assoc.==
Employers also want to have regular work days so that they can have a proper management system.
No consensus was reached at the end of the meeting. However, Premier Lin stressed that they need to find the middle ground and uphold the interest of both the labor and the employers.
==LIN CHUAN, Premier=
We have to protect the rights of workers while making sure that businesses can operate properly too.
==KUO FONG-YU, Labor Minister==
We can guarantee that the exception will not become the rule. Secondly, exceptions will not be abused because we will have measure in place to ensure that.
Labor organizations are adamant that the 7 public holidays cannot be cut. The Labor Ministry, on the other hand, insisted on allowing exceptions to the law. The Ministry also proposed increasing days of paid leave, offering workers whose time of service is less than a year 7 days of paid leave. However, the Labor Ministry did not give further detail on their plan.
