Different styles of celebration and the theatrical side of wrestling were on show during Olympic wrestling. On Aug. 18, in greco-roman style wrestling, in the 130 kilogram category, Cuba's Mijain Lopez won gold. He danced for joy after winning and body-slammed his coach to the floor. Other winning wrestlers knelt and wept tears of joy. In the 130 kilogram category, Cuba's Mijain Lopez had a substantial lead right from the start. With just one minute to go he felt he had victory within his grasp and danced at the audience who cheered back at him. In the end he defeated Riza Kayaalp of Turkey six-nil and won the gold medal, his third consecutive Olympic gold. His coach rushed on stage to congratulate Lopez and was felled by a congratulatory full body slam. In the 66 kilogram category the competition lasted 3 minutes and 12 seconds as the Armenian champion Migran Arutyunyan was leading one nil and then sustained an injury and withdrew bleeding. The referee stopped the match until he was bandaged up, then re-started it. His opponent, Davor Stefanek of Serbia won the gold. Both had the same score, one all, but the Serbian's fight moves were judged to be better. It was the Serbian's third Olympics but the first time he had won gold and he was ecstatic. In the men's Greco-Roman 98 kilogram division, Artur Aleksanyan of Armenia fought hard right from the start leaving his opponent Yasmany Cabrera of Cuba, little room for maneuver. The Armenian won 3 nil and was so overcome that he knelt on the floor and cried. In the 58 kilogram category, Andre-Stige Berge of Norway claimed the bronze medal by three to one, with Berge giving the Norwegians their first wrestling medal since 1992. He too burst into tears of joy and his coach rushed into to hug him. In the 75 kilogram category fight for the gold, Russian wrestler Roman Vlasov won his second Olympic gold medal, defeating Mark Madsen of Denmark. In the final round stuffed toys were thrown on stage and interrupted the match. After the first 4 minutes and 24 seconds while the game was still in progress, the Danish team suddenly threw a toy onstage. The referee immediately stopped the match. Denmark felt the Russian opponent had made an illegal move but after checking video, the Danish protest was dismissed. In the end Vlasov won by three to one his second Olympic gold medal.
