How Russia makes a gold medal winner / 禁藥陰霾籠奧運 揭露俄"製造冠軍"祕辛

Russia's state-backed doping scandal forced the International Association of Athletics Federations to ban track and field athletes from attending the Rio Olympics. In addition, all Russian athletes will not be allowed to compete in the following Paralympics. Recently, a documentary has lifted the lid on some of Russian sport's darkest secrets, which makes people reflect on the meaning of winning a gold medal. The 22-year-old hammer thrower Quentin Bigot failed a dope test taken at the 2014 European Team Championships. He was thus suspended from competition for 4 years. His coach was also prosecuted for instigating the practice of doping. ==QUENTIN BIGOT, French hammer thrower== I thought I would never be caught. I figured that others would be caught before me, and I would always be lucky and slip through the net. Over 3,000 athletes worldwide are suspended for doping every year. Among them is Yuliya Stepanova, who won the 800 meters gold medal for Russia in the 2011 European Indoor Championships and World Championships. She and her husband Vitaliy Stepanov, a former employee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, revealed doping fraud in the Russian sports system in 2014. The doping scandal forced the IAAF to disqualify 4,000 Russian athletes. The punishment was of the largest scale in the history of sports. ==YULIYA STEPANOVA, former Russian runner== Sergey Nikolaevich Portugalov is, how can I put it, a doctor who prepares athletic teams for the European and World championships to make sure they win the medals. In recent years, doping violations have been mostly found in competitions such as bodybuilding, track and fields, weightlifting, and cycling. However, the situation is not about athletes cheating the system. Behind the athletes, there are medical teams to help them become gold medalists. Black market drugs generate EU$30 billion in the sports industry annually. It is ironic that sports competition has become a drug competition, and money has overcome the spirit of sport.
