DISPUTES CONTINUE OVER ILLEGAL ASSETS BILL|立院臨時會審黨產條例 攻防終日未過關

The Legislative Yuan reviewed the "Illegal Party Asset Draft Bill" at a scheduled review session on July 22nd. The Kuomintang countered the Democratic Progressive Party by asking the word "illegal" to be removed. The New Power Party drew out of the negotiation twice, as it believed that the KMT was using a delaying tactic, which left no space for discussion. Since consensus was reached on only a few of the articles, the DPP is set to pass the bill during the ad hoc session next week. Both KMT and DPP legislators were ready to negotiate over the Illegal Party Asset Draft Bill at a scheduled review session on July 22. They held notices and shouted out their demands. After negotiating for over one hour, the New Power Party deputy leader Hsu Yung-ming left abruptly. He criticized the KMT for using a delaying tactic to counter the bill. The KMT proposed a 650,000 word motion to amend, and asked the word "illegal" to be removed. The Legislative Yuan was replaced by the Control Yuan as an investigating body. ==LI YEN-HSIU, KMT caucus vice secretary-general== We know that some articles actually violate the constitution. Hsu resumed participates in the negotiations during the evening, but KMT legislators didn't show up until 3:00p.m. During the meeting, a consensus was reached on 22 of the 34 articles among all parties. However, the NPP left the negotiations again as the KMT insisted on removing the word "illegal" and changing the bill's name into "Party Asset Supervision and Management Bill". ==HSU YUNG-MING, NPP deputy leader== The KMT asked us to believe in them, but we could not. We already know that they will have a vote for every single article, right? It does not matter. We know that they will exercise the tyranny of the majority. The Illegal Party Asset Draft Bill was left to an ad hoc session. While the DPP believes that the KMT delayed the agenda deliberately, the KMT emphasizes that they followed parliamentary procedures.
