Lawmaker Proposes Pension Reduction for Former Presidents 王鴻薇擬提案修法 降卸任正副總統禮遇金

Legislator Wang Hung-wei wants to see the pensions of former presidents and vice presidents lowered to NT$75,000 from the current NT$250,000 and NT$180,000, respectively.

Under current laws, former presidents receive NT$250,000 per month and former vice presidents receive NT$180,000 per month. During her first press conference after entering the legislature, Wang Hung-wei proposed revisions to lower this amount to NT$75,000 for both former presidents and vice presidents.

Wang Hung-wei, Legislator (KMT): “(Chen Chien-jen) said he and President Tsai have an arrangement. After he leaves office, he will get NT$75,000 instead of NT$300,000. He said this publicly.”

Wang also said when Chen was dealing with reforms to military, civil servant and teacher pensions as vice president, he said during an interview that he supported reducing the pensions of former presidents and vice presidents. Wang says she will propose revisions to help Chen make good on his word. In response, Chen said he respects the legislative process.

Chen Chien-jen, ROC Premier: “If presidential and vice presidential pensions are reviewed and held at the Legislative Yuan, we would of course respect that. After all, this is a country where there is a rule of law.”

Chung Chia-pin, Legislator (DPP): “Everyone is focused on the pension amount, especially Legislator Wang. We've seen her type of knee-jerk legislation style in the legislature for too long. It's totally unnecessary.”

DPP lawmaker Chung Chia-pin says Wang should go ask former President Ma Ying-jeou what he thinks first, as Ma is still receiving his pension. Wang says no cross-party consultations have been held but she will try her best to gain support from the party for the revisions.

國民黨立委王鴻薇在立法院召開的第1場記者會，就瞄準卸任正副總統的禮遇金。依照現行規定，卸任總統每月可領25萬禮遇金、卸任副總統18萬。王鴻薇擬提案修法，將卸任正副總統月領禮遇金，都調降為7.5萬。

國民黨立委王鴻薇表示：「他（陳建仁）說跟蔡總統說好了，卸任的禮遇要從30萬降到7萬5000。這個呢，是當時陳建仁公開的說法。」

王鴻薇指出，時任副總統陳建仁，在主持軍公教年改時，曾在電視訪談中，贊成調降卸任正副總統禮遇金。王鴻薇強調，會提案修法，是要幫助陳建仁落實承諾。陳建仁表示，尊重立法院審議結果。

行政院長陳建仁說：「總統、副總統禮遇金的審議呢，如果在立法院審議，我們當然是要尊重立法院審議的結果，這是一個法治的國家。」

民進黨立委鍾佳濱認為：「現在各界呢，集中在所謂的禮遇金的額度。尤其是王委員，她那樣膝蓋反應式的立法呢，讓我們過去在立法院看了這麼多年，我們覺得大可不必。」

鍾佳濱表示，目前還有領卸任禮遇的，只有前總統馬英九，要王鴻薇先去問馬英九意見。王鴻薇強調，若修法通過是一體適用，目前還沒跟黨團內部溝通，但會盡力爭取支持。
