Drunk Driver Kills Female Pedestrian 汐止男酒駕逆向撞行人 6旬婦送醫不治

A deadly car accident occurred in New Taipei's Xizhi on the 30th. A 55-year-old man surnamed Lai drove under the influence. He went against the traffic and crashed into a 69-year-old woman. The woman was sent to the hospital and was declared dead. Police found Lai's blood alcohol reached 0.57. This month alone, police have cited more than 700 drinking and driving cases in Taipei and New Taipei. 

The woman in red was carrying bags and crossed the street after making sure there were no cars. Just as she was about to cross the intersection, she was hit by an oncoming car. The woman flew several meters after being hit and fell to the ground. Her heart immediately stopped and she wasn't breathing. She was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but was later declared dead.

Witness: “I was taking my child into the car. Then there was a loud bang. And we heard someone crying. I ran over to check and found out I knew her.”

The hood of the car involved in the accident was dented, leaving impact marks. The fatal car accident occurred in section one of Xiping Road in New Taipei's Xizhi District. A 69-year-old woman surnamed Su, who just walked out of her house at 7 p.m. on the 30th, was hit by a 55-year-old man surnamed Lai when she crossed the intersection. Lai drove his car into the oncoming lane. When the police arrived at the scene, they found that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. His blood alcohol test value was 0.57 mg per liter.

Nearby Resident: “Ms. Su sometimes sweeps the ground around here, and she also volunteers. She was very enthusiastic, very good, and friendly with all of us.”

The news of the woman's death caused nearby residents to feel very sad. Her family members were even close to the road at the time of the incident and were unwilling to talk after the incident. The police investigation found that it was the first offense for the driver. In addition to committing a crime of public danger, he also caused negligent death. Police have cracked down on drunk driving. According to the statistics of Taipei City this year, there were 278 drunk driving cases as of Jan. 29. As of Jan. 30, there were 430 cases in New Taipei City. The police's repeated admonition to not drink and drive should not just fall on deaf ears. 

紅衣婦人提著大包小包，左右查看沒來車後，才剛要穿梭路口，一輛汽車迎面而來，直接撞上。大批警消圍繞，婦人噴飛好幾公尺，倒在地面，失去呼吸心跳。緊急送醫搶救，仍舊宣告不治。

目擊者指出：「第一時間我是帶小孩子坐車子，小孩子有聽到碰一聲很大聲，附近的人還是誰，有聽到人在哭的聲音，我就跑過去看，才知道是認識的。」

肇事轎車引擎蓋凹陷，留有撞擊痕跡。死亡車禍發生在新北市汐止汐平路一段，69歲蘇姓婦人，30日晚間7時許，剛走出家門，穿越路口時，遭到55歲賴姓男子，開車逆向撞上。警方到場後，發現駕駛酒駕，酒測值每公升0.57毫克。

附近居民表示：「她這邊有時候掃地，她（婦人）也在做志工。就很熱心，很好，在我們這邊都很好。」

婦人死亡消息，讓附近居民很不捨。事發當下，家屬甚至就在一旁，事後不願多做回應。而警方調查，肇事駕駛初犯，但喝酒還上路，除了涉及公共危險罪，更觸犯過失致死罪嫌。不過，員警取締酒駕，台北市今年統計到29日，就有278件；新北市截至30日，也有430件。警方一再宣導喝酒不開車，不該只是當成耳邊風。
