Firecracker Injury and Mess on Liuqiu Island 煙火射進用餐區 小琉球遊客右腿遭炸傷

A New Year's Eve celebration on Liuqiu Island of Pingtung went haywire. Some guests staying at a B&B nearby a restaurant played with firecrackers carelessly despite warning from the restaurant. Soon enough, firecrackers went out of control and shot through the outdoor dining space and hurt one lady in the leg. 

Tables of customers were having dinner and enjoying the view at an outdoor dining space in Pingtung County on New Year's Eve when a firecracker suddenly shot through the dining space and hit one lady in the leg. She suffered from a second-degree burn on the leg.

Wu Ming-sheng, Chief, Liuqiu Police Station, Pingtung County Police Bureau: “Investigation showed that someone was celebrating the new year with firecrackers without permission nearby and ended up hurting one lady visitor by accident. The injured lady has decided to file a legal complaint through us.”

Firefighter From Pingtung County: “They said it was windy and the firecrackers went out of control.”

Travelers staying at the B&B nearby were playing with firecrackers. They were asked to stop playing earlier since the smoke from their firecrackers would travel to the restaurant but they would not listen. The accident occurred soon after. What's more, firefighters also found lots of trash and ashes lying around at the B&B the next day.

B&B Operator: “There were about close to 40 of them, I think 38 in total. They were all families and they booked the whole building.”

B&B housekeeper also complained about the trash the next day. What's more, household items were damaged and the grass was burned. Leftover sparklers and chairs were also found thrown in the swimming pool.

B&B Housekeeper: “I've seen messiness after but not to this degree. I've never seen damaged things or things thrown in the pool.”

These irresponsible guests would very likely be facing lawsuits from the injured lady and from the B&B asking for compensation. Police would like to remind the public to handle firecrackers with care.  

跨年夜的餐廳戶外座位區，一桌桌客人開心用餐，沒多久，竟有煙火射進用餐區。座位離煙火最近的一名女遊客，直接被煙火炸傷，右腿2級燒燙傷送醫。

屏東縣警局琉球分駐所長吳明勝指出：「經了解，係民眾跨年燃放鞭炮。經查未申請，誤傷女遊客，被害人已至本所提出過失傷害（告訴）。」

屏東縣消防人員表示：「他們說風大，（煙火）就倒下了。」

事情發生在屏東小琉球一家餐廳，當時附近民宿的客人在餐廳旁放煙火，先是煙塵不斷被風吹到用餐區，屢勸不聽，之後就發生煙火炸傷人的事故。消防人員2日一早來勘查時，現場還留著許多放煙火留下的垃圾。

民宿業者說：「包括孩子快40人、38人，他們算是家庭的來包棟。」

不只餐廳抱怨，民宿業者整理時也傻眼，因為民宿裡外都是垃圾，多樣設備毀損，草皮也被煙火燒壞，泳池內還有椅子跟燒完的仙女棒。

民宿管家表示：「之前遇過的狀況是裡面很亂而已，沒有這麼離譜的。沒有說東西都壞掉，或是什麼東西都丟到游泳池裡。」

為了一時開心，亂放煙火又破壞物品，這群遊客恐怕將面對受傷女遊客及民宿的提告及求償。警方也提醒，民眾放煙火應注意數量及安全，以免造成自己或他人受傷，得不償失。
