TSMC Stops Dropping and Rebounds Intraday by NT$8
TSMC, a heavy weight on the TAIEX dropped over 4 percent on Oct. 25, with the ban on short-selling, it bounced back NT$8, at one point reached NT$379 on Oct. 26. Recently, TSMC is in the midst of diplomatic situation that could end in a global conflict. Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua calls on the public to have faith in Taiwan's semiconductor sector.
Taiwan's semiconductor industry plays an irreplaceable role in the world supply chain; however, recently, due to regional political tensions and other factors, causing concern worldwide, the Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua compelled a confidence talk at the Legislative Yuan in response to inquiries.
Wang Mei-hua, Minister of Economic Affairs: “Continue to expand our irreplaceable role worldwide, hence there is no such thing as eliminating Taiwan from the semiconductor industry, and we should not let that happen.”
Wang Mei-hua urged that at the present stage, Taiwan should continue to strengthen its own position, allowing Taiwan's semiconductor technology to keep playing the leading role. However, as the pioneer of the Taiwan semiconductor industry, TSMC, its CEO C.C. Wei has uncommonly asked employees to go on leaves. People interpreted it as TSMC being adversely impacted in orders, or the beginning of unpaid leaves. The Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua responded that she had earlier communicated with TSMC and understood that it is TSMC's new business communication mode.
Wang Mei-hua, Minister of Economic Affairs: “It is no longer like before, where capacity must exceed 100 percent, so machinery can undergo maintenance normally. So under the circumstances, he is just reminding employees to take the proper leaves.”
TSMC's share price finally stopped dropping on Oct. 26. Also, financial stocks are rising. These became the pivotal elements in supporting Taiwan Stock. With an intraday rise of over 100 points, the bull market had shown the intention to challenge and secure the 12,700 points threshold.
