Chen Deflects Criticism About Pandemic Response 陳時中防疫挨轟 自嘲「好學生被挑毛病」

The KMT and TPP-affiliated Taipei City mayoral candidates have repeatedly raised doubts about how DPP candidate Chen Shih-chung handled the COVID-19 pandemic during his time as health and welfare minister. Chen recently told the printed media that he's come under criticism because he performed so well.

Three candidates are facing off in the Taipei City mayoral race. The KMT and TPP-affiliated Taipei City mayoral candidates have repeatedly raised doubts about how DPP candidate Chen Shih-chung handled the COVID-19 pandemic during his time as health and welfare minister. During a recent interview with United Daily News, Chen said others are finding fault with him because he performed so well. KMT candidate Chiang Wan-an remained unconvinced.

Chiang Wan-an, KMT Taipei City Mayoral Candidate: “Neither the DPP nor Chen Shih-chung has been the least bit willing to honestly self-review or self-reflect. Instead, they just blame other people for all their mistakes. It's like someone else is always responsible, and they are never responsible for any of their mistakes.”

Meanwhile, Chen attacked Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je for going ahead with the Taipei-Shanghai Twin City Forum as Chinese fighters were buzzing Taiwan's airspace, claiming it was incompetent and also hurt Taiwan. He described it as being like a gangster running to serve tea. Independent candidate Vivian Huang had a response.

Vivian Huang, Independent Taipei City Mayoral Candidate: “It wasn't the Taipei City Government that was incompetent. After all, a missile crossed over Taiwan and the central government didn't care at all. We didn't even know that it flew over Taipei until Japan informed us.”

Huang said that regardless of whether there are exchanges such as the forum, it's the central government that cares the least about the security of the people. She asked the Tsai administration and Chen to explain why they did nothing as a missile flew overhead. Meanwhile, Chiang cautioned that existing communication channels need to be maintained to prevent any error of judgment from raising tensions.

國民黨台北市長參選人蔣萬安表示：「一直以來，我們看到民進黨或陳時中都不願意深切地自我好好檢討跟反省，把所有的過錯都推給別人，好像責任永遠都是其他人，千錯萬錯都不是自己的錯。」

此外，陳時中批評，柯文哲在共機擾台之際仍舉辦雙城論壇，是無為又害國家，如同看見流氓又跑去奉茶。對此，無黨籍參選人黃珊珊做出回擊。

無黨籍台北市長參選人黃珊珊認為：「無為的應該不是台北市政府，飛機穿越飛彈打過來，中央政府完全不在乎吧！直到日本通知我們，我們才知道它飛越了台北市的上空。」

黃珊珊批評，不管有沒有雙城論壇這樣的溝通管道，中央政府才是最不在乎人民安全的人，應先解釋飛彈打過來，蔡政府、陳時中有無作為。蔣萬安則提醒，希望保持既有溝通管道，避免任何誤判和升高衝突，展現團結一致的決心。
