The U.S. called China's military exercise an "overreaction" on the 4th, while Japan claimed PRC missiles landed in its exclusive economic zone. China, meanwhile, said the U.S. and Taiwan will decide if this type of military exercises become "the new normal."

The White House condemned China's military exercise and the firing of missiles around Taiwan on the 4th.

John Kirby, Spokesperson, White House National Security Council: “We condemn these actions, which are irresponsible and at odds with our long-standing goal of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and in the region. China has chosen to overreact and use the Speaker's visit as a pretext to increase provocative military activity in and around the Taiwan Strait.”

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrapped up her Asia trip on the 5th after meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. China launched its military exercise after Pelosi left Taiwan. Japan believes several PLA missiles landed in its exclusive economic zone.

Fumio Kishida, Japanese Premier: “I already told her (Pelosi) that this is causing severe national security issues for Japan and safety issues for the Japanese people. We strongly condemn China and protest (its actions). We ask them to halt their military exercises immediately.”

Nobuo Kishi, Japanese Defense Minister: “China fired nine ballistic missiles. Five of them landed in Japan's exclusive economic zone.”

What kind of future impact will the three-day exercise have?

Hua Chunying, Spokesperson, PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “Could this become the new normal? That depends on U.S. interference and separatist forces in Taiwan.”

The PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs says China will continue protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity as long as the U.S. and Taiwan continue plotting to split China.

美國白宮針對中國4日軍演，在台灣周邊發射飛彈，表示譴責。

美國白宮國家安全會議發言人柯比表示：「我們譴責這些行動，它們是不負責任的，也與我們長期維護台灣海峽及該地區，和平穩定的長期目標相悖，中國選擇反應過度，利用裴洛西議長的訪問當藉口，在台灣海峽及周邊增加挑釁性的軍事活動。」

美國眾議院議長裴洛西抵達日本，5日與首相岸田文雄會面，這也是她這次亞洲行的最後一站。中國是在她離開台灣後開始實施大規模軍事演習，日本因中國的彈道飛彈疑似落入日本經濟海域，向中國提出外交抗議。

日本首相岸田文雄表示：「我已經告訴她（裴洛西），這對我們的安全和日本人民的安全是一個嚴重的問題，我們強烈譴責中國並提出抗議，我們要求他們立即停止軍事演習。」

日本防衛大臣岸信夫則指出：「中國發射9枚彈道飛彈，其中5枚落估計在日本的專屬經濟海域。」

這次演習從4日開始一連3天，外界關切相關演練在未來的發展。

中國外交部發言人華春瑩則回應：「會不會成為新常態，就要取決於美方和台獨分裂勢力，他會怎麼做。」

中國外交部表示，兩者一天不停止企圖分裂中國的行動，中國就一天也不會停止堅決捍衛中國主權和領土完整的決心、意志和能力。
