A school girl of Taoyuan Bade District was approached by a stranger, who was attempting to ask for directions. He then pulled and tugged the girl. Police has taken the suspect for further questioning. The police said it will continue to enhance school surrounding area patrols to ensure student safety and remind them to walk home with friends and not alone or onto small paths.
The girl was approached and even pulled by a male stranger on a motorcycle in an alley on her way back home from school. After frightening the girl, the man rode away on his motorcycle. The girl's family reported to the police after learning of this, and the school posts information on the parent-teacher contact book to remind parents to keep a closer watch on students' commute to and from school.
Hsieh Ji-jen, Principal, Dayong Elementary School: “When the after-school child care class ended, the student walked home by herself, where she encountered this man who tried to strike up a conversation with her and pulled her, scaring our student.”
Citizen: “I pick up my child myself. ( Reporter: “Are you worried about your kid walking home by herself and running into male strangers?”) Of course, we would worry. If I don't have time, I'd ask a family member to pick up my child; I'd not let her walk back herself.”
After receiving the report, the police immediately checked out security cameras in the surrounding area and reported it to the prosecutors. On March 9, the police investigated the relevant route and caught 45-year-old suspect surnamed Kuo. However, Kuo claimed that he was merely asking for directions and denied committing any crimes. After the police investigation, per the child abduction criminal code, Kuo has been transferred to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office.
Wang Rui-hong, Station Chief, Daan Police Station, Bade Precinct: “The police immediately checked out the surrounding security cameras after receiving the report and reported to the supervision of the District Officer, whereupon they were able to catch the suspect in line with the route. After investigation, the case will be transferred in accordance with the relevant law to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office.”
The police note that it will continue to enhance school surrounding area patrols to ensure student safety. The school says that their concern is emphasized on non-group single students, thus with respect to students in after-school care services, student organizations, and activities, they will especially remind them to walk home with friends and not alone or onto small paths.
