The applications of emergency relief has increased 165-fold from the first five months of the year to June. Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je says relief funds can only help families below the poverty line in the short term. The central government should come up with measures to help those who can barely make ends meet instead of having them pay NT$ 1000 to buy stimulus vouchers, which he considered as " unrealistic" .

Ko Wen-je, Taipei City Mayor:”There was a one main reason for what happened at Songshan Precinct and Beitou Precinct, and that is police have gotten too close to gangsters and hostess bar (operators).”
The number of emergency relief applications increased 165-fold from the first five months of the year to June, with single-month distributions reaching NT$160 million. Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je says emergency relief funds are only a band-aid for families below the poverty line and the central government's "quintuple stimulus vouchers," which require citizens to pay NT$1,000 up front, are impractical.
Ko Wen-je, Taipei City Mayor:”It's beyond obvious. Why are the quintuple stimulus vouchers causing so many problems? The Tsai administration needs to think about the plight of the people and decide whether they are trying to provide relief or stimulate the economy.”
The Taipei City Department of Social Welfare has seen emergency relief allocations increase 13-fold this year. Ko says the Tsai administration needs to find a balance between disease prevention and the economy, which is why he decided to go ahead and allow Ningxia Night Market and other venues to reopen.

而疫情影響下，今年6月，台北市的急難救助申請案，比起之前的1到5月，暴增165倍，單月總金額高達1.6億，對此，柯文哲強調，救助金可以讓因為疫情、掉到貧窮線之下的家庭，暫時得到溫飽，卻也認為中央要發放「五倍券」，不切實際。
台北市長柯文哲：「很明顯這是，所以為什麼這次五倍券會造成問題，就是說政府還是要思考看看在現階段，哪些人是到底是還在紓困的階段，還是要進入振興的階段。」
柯文哲強調，根據社會局的報表統計，今年領取急難救助的，比去年增加13倍，考量防疫和經濟間，要取得平衡，因此他才會率先做出同意寧夏夜市開放等的決定。
