Four Taipei Main Station Cleaners Test Positive

All stores on the first floor of Taipei Main Station were closed for three days for disinfection after four cleaners tested positive. They will reopen on the 28th.

All stores on the first floor of Taipei Main Station are closed. There are announcements posted on doors saying they have been closed for three days for disinfection and will reopen on July 28. The Taipei City Government confirmed that four workers from a cleaning company used by Taiwan Railway Administration at Taipei Main Station tested positive between July 22 and 24. Two live in Taipei and the other two live in New Taipei City. The locations they cleaned include Taipei Main Station's ticket office on the first floor as well as lavatories. Lavatories in three sections have been closed for additional disinfection. They will remain closed for three days. However, the ticket office is operational.

Traveler: “I tried to get tickets as fast as possible. (So you didn't stay too long.) That's right.”

Traveler: “They've probably disinfected everything, so it should be fine. I should be fine as long as I maintain good hygienic practices."

Taipei's Department of Health has identified potential contacts. It has also asked relevant authorities to make lists of TRA patrol personnel and first-floor store personnel to ask them to conduct self-health management. They will be required to produce negative tests in order to go back to work. Meanwhile, John Black Tea Company posted on Facebook on July 26 that a part-time employee at a store in Taipei's Neihu District lost the sense of taste on July 24 and took a rapid test, which came back positive. A PCR test on July 25 confirmed the result. The store has been closed for disinfection, and 17 colleagues who are potential contacts have been identified for testing. All rapid tests have come back negative. The company also tested all employees on July 26 and said that any store would be closed if someone tests positive. New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Liu Ho-jan spoke about the possibility that the city will purchase its own vaccines during an interview. He said the central government needs to make the rules of the game clear.

Liu Ho-jan, Deputy New Taipei City Mayor: “We've always felt that the central government needs to make the rules about vaccines clear. We've seen rules for companies and religious organizations. If you want to let local governments purchase them, then we don't want to see a new set of rules.”

New Taipei City has been hit hard by the epidemic, and Liu gave the city's disease prevention efforts a score of 80. He said he deducted 20 points because there have been many uncertain factors. The biggest issue is the adding of cases retroactively, which meant that contacts of confirmed cases were not immediately identified or quarantined, resulting in disease prevention breaches.
