The Presidential Office recently announced its nomination list for the Control Yuan, which immediately stirred up controversy. Tsai responded in an interview.
There were many rumors and theories (about the nominees). Like I just said, I was the one who made the final decision and I will take on this responsibility. That is my responsibility. Tsai said people cannot say the list is "green" just because there are few nominees affiliated with the Kuomintang. She said she wanted the list to be diverse and rise above political parties to allow everyone to jointly protect national interests. Tsai used this opportunity to send a message to opposition parties, saying the constitution needs to be amended.

The Diaoyutai Islands are part of the Republic of China's territory and come under our sovereignty. This is our position and it will not change. What's more important is that the regional situation is very complicated, with many unilateral actions that make the regional situation more complicated. We need to stay cool-headed under these circumstances.
Tsai also said the past four years of her administration have shown the government's determination to protect fishing rights and the interests of fishermen. The Executive Yuan has ordered the Coast Guard Administration to protect the fishing rights and safety of fishermen. Tsai said Taiwan's fishermen have not been blocked from fishing near the Diaoyutai Islands, and fishing rights are manifestations of sovereignty.
