Deputy Justice Minister Tsai Pi-Chung will take over as acting magistrate for Hualien County starting September 17. The news has led to speculations that Tsai's tenure in Hualien will focus on investigating fraud and bribery cases.
Under the supervision of Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-Yung, Deputy Justice Minister Tsai Pi-Chung takes over the official seal from Yen Hsin-Chang, secretary general of the Hualien County Government.
With his expertise in legal matters, and his experience serving as the deputy justice minister, Tsai is certainly capable of smoothly handling the administrative tasks as well as the upcoming local elections.
Tsai Pi-Chung stressed that his main task is to set up a fair and equal voting platform in order to curb vote-buying in the county. He is also very concerned about the rebuilding in Hualien after the heavy earthquake that took place earlier this year.
I hate partisanship the most in politics. In the next three months, we look to elect the right candidate. And we need to set up an unbiased platform. I'll work hard to make it happen in the next three months.
Former Hualien Magistrate Fu Kun-Chi, who's about to serve his jail term, has expressed his gratitude to Hualien's local residents in hopes to gain their continued support for his wife, who's also involved in politics.
Hsu Chen-Wei has become the "daughter of Hualien" since she married me 9 years ago. I hope the local residents in Hualien can transfer your support to my wife.
The official residence for Hualien County magistrate was auctioned off 10 years ago, and it is currently uncertain where Tsai will live. Tsai's taking office also means preparation for the year-end local elections is heating up.
