The Criminal Investigation Bureau and Malaysian authorities recently worked together on a drug bust. On Aug. 3, the bureau found a huge stash of hypnotic drug Nimetazepam in a storage container at the Port of Keelung. Fortunately, the container had not cleared customs yet.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau and customs personnel found over 1.6 million Nimetazepam tablets in a storage container at the Port of Keelung on the 8th. The bureau found the drugs after getting a tip from Malaysian law enforcement.
This stash was probably manufactured by a domestic drug ring. We believe the Nimetazepam was manufactured in Taiwan for export to Malaysia.
Whoa, that's a lot.
Minister of the Interior Hsu Kuo-yung was flabbergasted by the volume of drugs seized. Police say the suspect set up a dummy corporation in Taiwan and hid the drugs in the container to smuggle them into Malaysia. In related news, Taichung police recently seized over 700 packets of illegal drugs on Chongde Road.
We have identified Chongde Road, the Fengchia and Yizhong shopping districts, and Zhonghua Road as drug hotspots. These areas have a higher population density.
Taichung City Police Department's Special Police Corps began using big data to identify drug hotspots last year. The identified hotspots include Chengde Road, Huanzhong Road, and the Fengchia and Yizhong shopping districts. Police say these areas are popular for buying and selling drugs because they are easy to get to and densely populated. Methcathinone and ketamine were recovered in the recent bust. Police say big data analysis shows drug use is on the rise and it will step up patrols in these areas.
