The 2018 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games includes e-Sports for the first time. There is an individual competition as well as a team competition. Flash Wolves member and world champion Chen Wei-lin is serving as the spokesperson for the competitions.
On the stage, eSports competitors are battling it out. Off the stage, the audience is enthralled. The National Intercollegiate Athletic Games is featuring eSports for the first time in the 2018 edition, with both a "Hearthstone" individual competition and a "League of Legends" team competition. The competitions will take place between Apr. 26 and 30 at National Central University.
People have many different opinions about eSports. However, we can see that there is worldwide interest. Moreover, eSports will be featured at this year's Asian Games for the first time. This is a big morale boost for our young competitors.
The games' organizer invited Chen Wei-lin, an eSports competitor who won the Hearthstone Championship Tour World Championship in January, to serve as the competition's spokesperson. He will also serve as a judge on Apr. 27 and 30. The entire competition is being streamed live on YouTube and Facebook.
I believe people don't fully understand eSports, and they confuse it with playing video games. I think this is a formal job. It's exactly the same as other sporting events, so I hope everyone can become better acquainted with eSports.
Chen added gamers not only need natural talent, but also need to put in hard work. National Central University, which is hosting the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games, hopes the event will continue to spark the nation's passion for sports following last year's Summer Universiade and further develop interest in eSports.
