Hong Kong's new chief executive, Carrie Lam, spoke in her new role in the Legislative Council for the first time yesterday morning. Lam said that she had no intention of starting political reform, but promised to increase funds for Hong Kong education by HK$5 billion. Lam also said that she hoped that the government would put aside its differences and co-operate, and work together to implement general elections in 2022.
Yesterday Carrie Lam went to the Legislative Council report on her policy and answer legislators' questions. The League of Social Democrats legislator Leung Kwok-hung, made noisy comments, but the other pan-democrat legislators treated her courteously. Lam said that she had been dealing with the Legislative Council for two decades and was saddened by the deterioration of the relationship between the executive and legislative branches. She promised to actively implement her campaign promises to deal with the youth problem and heal social rifts.
