ECO-AWARENESS BRINGS RESURGENCE IN FIREFLIES|從山林到城市 復育螢火蟲成生態指標

Efforts across Taiwan to repopulate fireflies have come to fruition. In a park in Taipei and a tribal district in Kaohsiung, specks of luminescence once again glow as night falls. Today, Fireflies in Kaohsiung's Namaxia District are a wonder to behold, but these luminous bugs had been dying out before local tribes people took up environmentally friendly farming practices. ==ABU KAAVIANA founder, local community organization == People began to realize that many people are curious about these bugs. So we did it in part for tourism, but the growth of firefly populations is also indicative of environmental recovery. ==COMMUNITY MEMBER== Dear fireflies. There was a time when the land belonged to your kind. Yet years of unconcern turned wetlands into cement slabs, and your kind, rendered heart broken, had to leave. In Taipei City's Mucha District Cuihu Park, fireflies also returned after three years of rehabilitation work. The restoration of habitat and removal of foreign fish species also ushered in the return of many more species. ==CHEN TE-HUNG wetland ecology expert== After improvements were made, the firefly as well as various other amphibians and gastropods have returned. So have other creatures that prey on these animals, such as birds. The whole ecology has recovered. We weren't just trying to help fireflies. Across Taiwan, the return of fireflies has become an indicator of local ecological health, and each gleam of luminescent glow in the dark is a testimonial to the resolve of those committed to protect nature. TRANSLATED BY：CLARE LEAR 螢火蟲觀光季，吸引許多民眾觀看，也帶動各地復育螢火蟲。在高雄那瑪夏，因為風災後的反思，讓螢火蟲重現山林。在台北的萃湖公園，透過改變公園景觀，也讓螢火蟲閃耀在野地。 高雄市那瑪夏區是知名賞螢地區，其實螢火蟲的復育，來自八八風災後，部落族人在重回家鄉後，改變農耕方式，以友善土地的觀念，恢復自然生態，也讓漸漸稀少的螢火蟲，大量出現在山林之中。 ==那瑪夏女窩創辦人 阿布娪．卡阿斐依亞那== 大家開始注意到 原來這個其實是很多人好奇的 有一個部分 是觀光的需求 可是對我們來說 其實也是一個生態恢復的指標 台北市木柵萃湖公園，原本是一個人工化公園，水泥護岸，加上氾濫的外來種魚類，讓螢火蟲失去棲地，在公園裡絕跡。但是經過三年的改造，移除外來種，增加自然棲地，在復育放養螢火蟲之後，不只螢火蟲重新回到公園裡，許多生物也一起出現。 ==濕地專家 陳德鴻== 整個棲地的改變以後 同時伴生在這裡的 包括兩棲類 很多的螺類 依靠它生存的 更多的這些生物 包括鳥類 整個系統是跟著改變 而不是單獨只為了螢火蟲 而去做這些努力 從山林到城市，復育螢火蟲成為生態指標，暗夜裡的發光的螢火蟲，有著不同故事，訴說每個地區守護環境的心意。 記者郭志榮 陳忠峰 陳志昌 報導
