Starting from next year, those covered by the labor insurance program must reach 61 years of age to receive their pension and those born after 1962 must reach 65 to receive their pension.
According to the Labor Insurance Act implemented in 2009, workers must be 61 to be eligible for applying for the labor pension program starting from next year. This is the first time that the age of eligibility in the labor pension program has been raised since its launch.

If extending the retirement age means receiving more pension, our retirement years will be more secure.

I don't think it will guarantee our retirement. The system has been changing. Japan has increased the retirement age from 65 to 70. Everyone is concerned.
The Bureau of Labor Insurance stated that the legal retirement age will be extended to 61 next year and will be extended every two years until it reaches 65. Workers born after 1962 must be 65 to claim their pension in the future. However, they can apply for an early or late retirement. A maximum of five years can be given in both cases. While an early retirement will see a 4% reduction in the pension package for each early year, a late retirement will see vice versa. As of this March, more than 930,000 workers have applied for their pension. 29.9% of them requested an early retirement. As high as 60% of the workers have chosen to retire later.

Only 30% of the workers applied for an early retirement. The rest are mostly inclined to accumulate their number of years covered by the pension program to ensure a more secure retirement life.
According to the BLI, the reason why workers apply for a late retirement may be that they are still employed and insured by the program or that they want to accumulate more pension. Some others who have high salary delay their retirement because they currently don't have any financial burden.
