CULLS IN CHIAYI AND HUALIEN AS H5N6 BREAKS OUT AGAIN|花蓮.嘉義再撲殺染H5鴨.火雞 疾管局:疫情未擴散

Feb 24 marks the end of the government's seven-day ban on the transport and slaughter of poultry, but some ducks were found to be infected with the highly pathogenic H5N6 avian influenza virus in a poultry farm in Hualien on the 25th. The next day, more ducks were culled on another poultry farm in Hualien as well as a turkey farm in Chiayi. People are now worried that the situation may be out of control. The three duck farms are affected with H5N6 high-risk avian flu. All duck farms within one-kilometer range had their samples collected. In addition, a turkey farm in Chiayi's Minsyong Township had turkeys which died from unknown causes. Chiayi County Animal Disease Control Center collect samples and closed off the farm. To prevent a possible disease outbreak, 498 turkeys were culled. Several poultry farmers said the avian flu is not under control but slowly moving towards the north.
