President Tsai Ing-wen is currently in transit in San Francisco on her way home. Yesterday she visited El Salvador and met with President Salvador Sanchez Ceren. They agreed that in the future the two countries would strengthen and develop trade relations, and look for a commercial model to assist diplomatic allies in establishing basic infrastructure. Regarding Nigeria's demand for the ROC to move the representative office, Tsai aimed at China, saying putting on this sort of pressure did nothing to contribute to cross-strait stability. Salvadorean President Salvador Sanchez Ceren welcomed President Tsai Ing-wen at the presidential office for their meeting. Both sides feel they should strengthen and develop mutual trade relations. ==PRESIDENT SALVADOR SANCHEZ CEREN El Salvador== Both countries are objective about developing potential trade , we also hope in the future that we can use free trade agreements more beneficially. This type of tool will benefit both our countries' economic development. ==TSAI ING-WEN ROC President== We continue to be committed to cooperation between the two governments and our people, and to promote bilateral economic and trade investment, so that the people of our two countries share the fruits of mutual assistance and reciprocity. Talking to media, President Tsai also called on China to desist putting pressure on the ROC as it is doing in Nigeria. ==TSAI ING-WEN ROC President== I have also noted how recently China has made some moves and I think these have no benefit to cross strait relations . The Chinese authorities should sti down and think about how effective that sort of policy is. As to the unclear state of Taiwan US relations after President elect Donald Trump takes power, some are worried that Taiwan is seen as a bargaining chip, but Tsai stressed that Taiwan is not a small country, and is capable of dealing with international relations, and the most important principle is to put Taiwan's interests first.
