LEPROSY SANATORIUM REBUILDING PROGRAM APPROVED BY NDC|捷運開發拆樂生療養院地景 自救會成功爭取重建平台

The Taiwan Leprosy Patients' Self-help Organization has been fighting for preservation of its sanatorium for 11 years. New Taipei City had listed it as a historic building, but did not adhere to cultural heritage rules and allowed the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation to demolish it. The Organization applied to the Control Yuan to start an investigation and a sanatorium rebuilding program has approved by the National Development Council. ==PROTESTERS== Make bold reforms ! Give us back our lives. Students from the Youth Alliance for Losheng went to the Executive Yuan to make a statement. They said over 10 years ago, the then-Democratic Progressive Party administration made a wrong decision and demolished rare buildings and landscapes to build the MRT. This damaged the human rights of the resident patients. Now with the DPP back in government, they want justice, and have asked the government to rebuild the sanatorium. ==LEE TIAN-PEI Taiwan Leprosy Patients' Self-help Org.== I started to protest at 69 years old, I've eaten tang yuan at the winter solstice, but I'm now 83. The administration sees us and they dont understand, its their prejudice and discrimination, they made the wrong policy and destroyed our sanatorium. The Taiwan Leprosy Patients' Self-help Organization found that in 2009, when the then Taipei County Government had clearly stated that the leprosy sanatorium was designated as a historical building, it did not follow the relevant provisions of the law to set up a preservation and maintenance plan and allowed the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation to demolish and damage the sanatorium area. ==HO HSIN-CHIEH Youth Alliance for Losheng== It was designated as a cultural heritage site, they told us this, then they didn't change their plan. Recently, at the request of the elderly, we found out about this, so we want to ask the Control Yuan to investigate if the New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Bureau made a mistake and judge their decision-making process. To fight for the reconstruction of the landscape around the sanatorium, some analysts have put forward a program, which was sent to the National Development Council. A number of patients over the age of 80 stood up and called on the government to restore the sanatorium as soon as possible and not make them wait in their old age.
