PRINCIPAL SELLS OUT HOUSE TO ESTABLISH SCHOOL IN NORTHERN THAILAND|范雲華賣房辦學 用"教育"傳愛泰北

During the 1949 Chinese Civil War, parts of the army retreated back to the Thailand-Burma border. Unable to go back to their hometown, they established their lives there. However, their descendants have been living a hard life, much less going to schools. A Taiwanese principal, Fan Yun-hua, sold her house 14 years ago and established a middle school and shelter there, hoping to provide hope and better future for the children in Northern Thailand. Therefore, he had to put cattle out to pasture, pick up part time work from here and there. That's when I realize, the environment they're in, does not allow them to study. Volunteers from Ling Tung University and Shih Chien University would also visit Northern Thailand every year to exchange ideas and experiences with the students at Huilong Middle School. With the students' company, principal Fan no longer feels alone in her cause. ==YANG PEI-YU, student at Ling Tung University== When she doesn't talk, she looks very serious. However, when she talks, you'll think she's merciful and kind. I think she is just like my grandma. Principal Fan also established a shelter for homeless children over there, providing 24-hour care service. When they're born in this kind of condition, we try to provide some sort of assistance to help them strive to create a better future. As the number of student increases, more volunteers are needed. Principal Fan hopes that more retired teachers and others would come and join the program. Together, even with a little help, you too can provide a different future for these kids.
