In the future, people will no longer have to wait in line to pay their hospital bills at the cashier's. They will be able to download an APP and pay on their smart phone. The Ministry of Health and Welfare is working with 6 private hospitals in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, and 13 banks will launch the mobile medical payment services by the end of the year.
At the end of their visit to the hospital, people can simply pay with their smart phone. They can download the mobile application and use their bank account to complete the payment process before they pick up their medication. The Taipei City Hospital has already launched the mobile payment service in May, and it has made people's visit to the hospital more convenient.

We can just pay the bill on our smart phones and then pick up our medication. I think that's very convenient.

People are busy. If they can use the mobile payment service, they won't have to spend time waiting in line.
Besides the Taipei City Hospital, the Ministry of Health and Welfare is also working with 6 private hospitals in the north, central, and south Taiwan, and 13 banks to launch mobile medical payment services. Patients can use the mobile APP to register their credit card or Visa debit card. They can enter their ID number to check and pay for their medical bill. The patient's family can also make payments remotely. It is estimated that the mobile payment system will save at least 10 minute's waiting time.
==WU MING-YEN, Secretary-general, NGO Hospitals and Clinics Association==
On average people can save about 10 minute's waiting time because they don't have to stand in line. Also, friends or family can pay for the patient remotely.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare stressed that the new service can be used by both outpatients and inpatients. It will also reduce the risk of receiving counterfeit bills or payment errors for the hospitals. The mobile payment service will be launched end of this year and will expand to include public and private regional hospitals around Taiwan.
