LABOR UNIONS AND EMPLOYERS AT ODDS OVER POSTPONEMENT |''

A recent amendment to the new labor act mandates that starting from today, all Taiwanese workers must enjoy one day off per six working days. However, many industries where seven or more consecutive days of work is often necessary, have called on the government not to slap a single standard on a variety of different sectors. On Saturday evening, the cabinet said it decided to delay the implementation of the new regulation by two months.
The new labor system "six days work, one day off" was set to go into effect on Aug. 1. However the policy is now on hold until two months later. Some believe this is because the government policy lacked detailed planning.

If medical doctors were to follow the new system, who would be there to look after the patients?
==Member of public==
I support the policy to normalize days off, but the policy has to be suitable for each industry, that would be better.
The new policy would affect sectors such as passenger transport. During the long holiday for the Autumn Moon Festival there will be fewer bus services. This meant some transport companies could relax a bit.
==LEE CHIEN-WEN, General Manager, Taipei Bus==
Ministry of Labor extended implementation of the new policy, therefore there should be no problem with our transport services during the Autumn Moon Festival.
==LI CHI-YUEH, Spokesperson,Taipei Association of Travel Agents==
We urge the government to look into exceptions for particular industries, and include them in the Article 84-1 of Labor Standards Act.
The travel industry confirmed that the new labor policy would not work for it, and so the regulations should be amended. While some disagree, already one company chose to take Sundays off for its 61 chain stores, starting August 1st.
==WANG LI-CHU, General Manager, Mr. Mark Bakery==
Starting on Aug. 1 we will have every Sunday off. We have 61 chain stores, therefore we may lose NT$2 million in revenue per day.
During the two months extension, the government will hold discussions with industry representatives, which is expected to raise more controversy.

==民眾==
==民眾==
