Indonesia will host the 17th G20 Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali starting Nov. 15. It has been confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend in person. Jake Sullivan, US National Security Advisor: “I'm confident that they will feel very secure and comfortable in the United States' position when it comes to our support for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and our commitment to the Taiwan Relations Act, which does commit the United States to ensure we're providing the articles for Taiwan's defense.”
China's foreign ministry called on the United States to stop distorting the one-China principle and stop weaponizing trade issues and take real action to defend the role of the market economy.
Zhao Lijian, Spokesperson, Chinese Foreign Ministry: “The United States needs to stop fictionalizing, holding out and distorting the one-China principle, and abide by the basic norms in international relations including respecting other countries' sovereignty, territorial integrity and not interfering with other countries' internal affairs.”
Biden and Xi have spoken five times during Biden's presidency. The two leaders last met in person during the Obama administration, and the U.S. ties with China have since slumped to their lowest level in decades. Biden had expressed that he had made clear to Xi that he was looking for competition, not conflict.
