Li Sentenced to More Than 7 Years for Taroko Train Accident 太魯閣號事故一審宣判 李義祥判7年10月

On the 11th, the Hualien District Court annoucened the sentence of Li Yi-hsiang in regards to the accidental death of 49 people on the Taiwan Railway's Taroko Express train. 

Li Yi-hsiang, a contractor, was found guilty of negligent death and violating the Government Procurement Act. He was sentenced to 7 years and 10 months in prison. However, Li and migrant worker Hoa Van-hao were found not guilty of leaving the scene. Pan Tang-yi, Taiwan Railway's engineering director, was sentenced to 8 years and 10 months, the most severe sentence of the nine defendants. Families of victims could not accept the result and the Hualien District Prosecutors Office will appeal again.

台鐵太魯閣號撞車出軌造成49死，刑事一審部分11日在花蓮地方法院宣判，判決內容，認定包商李義祥牽涉過失致死、政府採購法這些罪，合併判刑7年10個月。另外李義祥跟移工華文好肇事逃走的部分無罪。台鐵主辦工程司潘堂益的刑度，合併8年10個月，是9名被告中最重的。家屬對結果難以接受，花蓮地檢署將再提上訴。
