Rescue Workers Had Their Hands Full Over Weekend 連假山林海域意外頻傳 搜救人員接連出勤

Accidents always abound during the National Day long weekend. In Taitung, a hiker injured himself after falling while another fell ill with altitude sickness and had to be airlifted off a mountain. In Taichung, a hiker twisted his ankle and had to be carried off the mountain by a rescue worker.

Rescue workers had their hands full over the long weekend. In Taitung County, a 60-year-old man fell and injured himself on the 9th, and had to be airlifted to Kaohsiung for medical treatment. Another hiker got altitude sickness and had to be airlifted off the mountain on the 10th. In Taichung, a 66-year-old man fell and sprained his ankle on the 9th. The seven firefighters that were dispatched to help him had to take turns giving him a piggyback ride off the mountain. They were able to transfer him to a stretcher chair for the final leg of the journey.

Taichung Firefighter: “OK, let's get moving. OK, let's go.”

In Pingtung's Majia Township, a drowning was reported on the 9th. The 37-year-old victim had no vital signs when firefighters found him and attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. 

Liang Chia-hsiang, Pingtung Firefighter: “What they told us was that someone drowned at the bottom of the waterfall. We immediately strapped on diving gear and launched a search and rescue. At 4:30 p.m., we found him and immediately began administering CPR.”

Firefighters say anyone that goes out on an outing should be properly equipped and check the weather report and familiarize themselves with the route before leaving home.

國慶3天連假許多民眾前往山林海域間活動，空勤直升機出勤頻率大增，台東縣先是有一位60歲男子攀登南一段關山至海諾南山間不慎摔傷，昨（9）日由直升機載送到高雄送醫。接著小關山則有登山協作發生高山症，今（10）日由直升機協助後送。除了空中及地面的搜救人員也不停歇，台中市昨日下午有一名66歲男子在波津加山步道健行不慎扭傷右腳腳踝，谷關與和平消防分隊7名搜救人員，輪流背負護送下山，到平緩區域後改用搬運椅運送，最後是自行就醫。

台中消防二大隊搜救人員說道：「這個要收囉，來，好可以往前走。」

屏東縣瑪家鄉牛角灣溪昨日下午則有溺水事故，37歲男子被消防人員救起時已無生命徵象，立即在岸邊實施CPR，隨即由救護車送醫急救，但最後仍宣告不治。

屏東瑪家消防分隊隊員梁家祥表示：「據民眾表示，有一名民眾於瀑布下方溺水，立即著潛水裝備實施救援，1630時順利救出患者一名，立即實施急救。」

搜救人員連假忙翻天，各地消防局呼籲民眾從事登山或水域活動時務必備妥相關裝備及器材，並注意多變的氣候與環境，維護自身安全。
