Chung Hua University Revokes Lin Chih-chien's Master's Degree 認定論文抄襲 中華大學撤林智堅碩士學位

Following the National Taiwan University's decision, The Chung Hua University has also revoked former Hsinchu Mayor Lin Chih-chien's master's degree and diploma.

Chung Hua University announced on Aug. 24 the results of Lin Chih-chien's thesis review, deeming that it constitutes severe plagiarism, thus revoking his master's degree.

Lin Yu-li, Dean for Academic Affairs, Chung Hua University: “After verifying the facts of this case, we deem that Lin Chih-chien had in fact plagiarized on his thesis, and quite substantially. As such, we recommend revoking Lin Chih-chien's master's degree in accordance with the law.”

President of Chung Hua University Victor Liu harbors hope that Lin Chih-chien will learn the lesson and start over again. It also believes the supervising professor is at fault and negligent and thus will submit the same to the teacher evaluation committee for review. KMT Taipei city councilor Wang Hung-wei vehemently criticized that the thesis double kill controversy is the epitome of an academic scandal.

Wang Hung-wei, Taipei City Councilor: “The controversy of Lin Chih-chien's thesis has evolved into a double kill. Lin Chih-chien has set the record of the first domestic politician to lose two master's degrees within one month. I believe this is an academic scandal to its utmost.”

Lin responded through his attorney that he feels regretful about the Chung Hua University Academic Ethics Committee's decision and will discuss remedial measures after receiving the university's official notification. The Hsinchu Science Park Bureau also made a statement saying it has already asked Chung Hua University to clarify the relevant details in the contract and will discuss aftermath handling measures subsequently.

中華大學24日公布林智堅論文案審議結果，認定抄襲情節嚴重，撤銷碩士學位。

中華大學教務長林育立表示：「於釐清本案事實後，認定林智堅君就本案碩士學位論文之寫作，確實存在抄襲情事且情節重大，並建議依法撤銷林智堅君碩士學位。」

中華大學校長劉維琪，期許林智堅記取教訓努力再出發，也認為指導老師難辭其咎，明顯有疏失，將送教評會檢討。揭發論文抄襲的藍營台北市議員王鴻薇則痛批，論文門雙殺局面，是徹底的學術醜聞。

王鴻薇說：「林智堅的論文門演變到今天，成為一個雙殺的局面，那麼林智堅也創下國內的政治人物第一位，在短短一個月之內，就失去兩個大學的碩士學位，我想這個是徹徹底底的，是一個學術的醜聞。」

林智堅則透過委任律師回應，對於中華大學學倫會公佈之審議結果感到遺憾，將在收到校方通知內容後，研議如何進行救濟。竹科管理局也在晚間發出聲明，已經請中華大學釐清合約相關細節，再研議後續處理。
