What a shock! A robbery occurred under broad daylight. At 2 p.m. on Oct. 20, a man in his late 60s withdrew NT$400,000 in cash at a Chinatrust branch on Taipei's Xinyi Road and was robbed on site in the lobby of the bank.
After tracking him for eight hours, police arrested a 16-year-old at a private residence in Banciao. The suspect evaded police after robbing a man of NT$400,000 by hopping on the MRT and then getting away by cab. Police still don't know why he committed the crime or what happened to the money. Eight hours earlier, a 70-year-old Chinatrust customer surnamed Yen withdrew NT$400,000 from the bank's Dongmen branch and was robbed in the lobby.
One guy was running and the other one was chasing him. (He) went into the MRT station. (Are you saying the suspect ran into the MRT station?) Yes.
According to police, Yen wanted to purchase Renminbi and found the 16-year-old on Facebook. The 16-year-old told Yen Renminbi would be wired into his account as soon as he made a withdrawal. The two made plans to meet at the bank. While Yen was checking his account balance after making the withdrawal, the teen grabbed the bag of money from Yen and raced out of the bank.
The victim and (the suspect) made plans to meet at a bank on Xinyi Road, Section 2 to complete a Renminbi transaction. After the victim (withdrew) the cash, the suspect did not transfer the Renminbi as promised. Instead, he took advantage of the opportunity to grab the victim's cash and flee.
