On the first workday after the recall vote against him, Kaohsiung City Mayor Han Kuo-yu paid his respects to late Kaohsiung City Council Speaker Hsu Kun-yuan, who died on the day of the vote. On the other hand, Chen Chi-mai, who had lost the mayoral election to Han, declined to comment on the chances of him running for the position again, in the upcoming by-election.
Kaohsiung City Mayor Han Kuo-yu spent over an hour paying his respects to Kaohsiung City Council Speaker Hsu Kun-yuan on the 8th. The two developed a close friendship during the 2018 Kaohsiung mayor election. Later in the day, Han visited the funeral hall a second time to pay his respects with city officials.
Kun-yuan was a good friend. All of Kaohsiung will miss him always.
According to the election commission, 939,000 city residents voted to recall Han. After the commission relieves Han of his duties, a by-election will be held.
With regards to all questions related to the by-election, can we just leave it here for now?
Vice Premier Chen Chi-mai, who was given his post after losing the mayor election to Han in 2018, is seen as a likely candidate for the Democratic Progressive Party. While attending an event in Kaohsiung on the 8th, he declined comment on the possibility of a return to Kaohsiung.
I think regardless of who runs and regardless of what by-election is held, I believe that person has to have a deep passion for Kaohsiung. They also must be extremely familiar with and have a deep understanding of the entire city administration. I think this is what we people of Kaohsiung are all hoping for.
Chen would only say Kaohsiung residents have made their decision and want a new start, and he hopes the turmoil of the past year is at an end.
高雄市長韓國瑜現身，前往弔祭高雄市議長許崑源，週一是韓國瑜罷免案通過之後第一個上班日，也是許崑源靈堂首日開放外界弔唁，兩人在2018年高雄市長選戰期間，建立深厚交情，韓國瑜帶領市府局處首長，二度赴靈堂致意。
高雄市長 韓國瑜表示：「崑源好朋友，所有高雄市民永遠追思。」
韓國瑜被高雄市民以93萬9千多票罷免，待中選會公告解職前，韓市府進入看守期，接下來，高雄市長將進行補選，但因受到許崑源驟逝衝擊，藍營態度低調。

而被視為民進黨補選人選的行政院副院長陳其邁，回到高雄出席第一屆國家海洋日活動，對於是否參與補選、或直接代理市長，並未鬆口。
行政院副院長 陳其邁表示：「我想不管是任何人的參選，或者是任何的補選，我相信都必須是對故鄉高雄有熱愛，對整個市政也都非常嫻熟了解，我想這是我們高雄市民，共同的期待。」
陳其邁表示，高雄市民已做出新決定，希望重新再出發，也希望過去一年多的紛擾，儘速落幕，言談間也細數急待解決的高雄市政，對補選雖未表態，已做好準備。
