Taipei Prison Inmates Help Mask Production|北監受刑人 一條龍生產口罩與口罩套

Media outlets from around the world have paid attention to Taiwan's disease prevention efforts. The Agence France-Presse recently said in their report that prisoners in Taipei Prison are also helping with the production of surgical masks. Some outlets from the U.S. and Japan have also acknowledged Taiwan's disease prevention efforts.


An inmate in Taipei Prison is seen folding a cloth mask neatly before ironing it on both sides. The inmate is wearing a cloth mask that was made by himself while cutting, sewing and packing up masks on a production line.

While I'm sewing the masks, I think the masks I make could help bring safety to my family members. I feel that I've found my path. Making the masks is not just my way of contributing to the society, it also brings a sense of acknowledgement for myself.

Taiwan's efforts to boost mask production output at a time when producing masks is a global priority to prevent the spread of COVID-19 has been acknowledged by other countries.

Our production began on February 13, and by yesterday, we have shipped more than 52 million masks.

Other than the AFP, which reported Taiwanese prisoners producing masks, media outlets from the U.S., Japan and South Korea have also reported Taiwan's disease prevention efforts, saying that Taiwan, which is located next to Mainland China, has boosted mask production output and contained the spread of virus.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also published a Facebook post, saying that Taiwan is like a child with no umbrella when it comes to disease prevention, but it has done a decent disease prevention job both now and during the SARS outbreak 17 years ago. Although the COVID-19 outbreak is still ongoing, Taiwan will continue to enforce disease prevention efforts and it has become a good example for other countries.

台北監獄受刑人表示：」我一邊在縫紉的過程當中，我在想這分口罩，可能可以帶給我的家人更安全，找到了肯定自己的方向，就因為這小小的口罩，讓我得到不只對社會一分回饋，更讓我們心裡面，因為這口罩，得到對自己的肯定。」

全球忙衝口罩量能之際，台灣整體口罩產能，受國際肯定。

台北監獄作業科科長 顏誌宏表示：「今年的二月十三號開始生產，截至昨天，我們已經大概出貨，五萬兩千多個口罩了。」

除了法新社報導台灣監獄受刑人協助衝口罩產量，包括美國、日本、韓國等20個國家媒體，紛紛報導台灣防疫表現，肯定緊鄰中國的台灣，用實際口罩產能和控制病例數的能力，抵擋疫情。

外交部也在臉書表示，不管是17年前的SARS，還是當前延燒全球的武漢肺炎，台灣在防疫路上，就是個沒有傘的孩子，只能冒著風雨不停向前奔，面對武漢肺炎疫情，台灣到前為止還算守得不錯。雖然疫情尚未退燒，台灣持續強化防疫能量，也成了國際效仿的典範。
