It recently emerged that two-time Olympic weightlifting gold medalist Hsu Shu-ching was banned from taking part in international competitions for three years after testing positive for a banned substance. In related news, the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee said that it will comply with the World Anti-Doping Agency's request to publish a list of all Chinese Taipei athletes who are currently banned from competition for positive drug tests before Apr. 5. According to reports, there are 11 athletes on the list.
In May 2018, the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee banned two-time Olympic weightlifting gold medalist Hsu Shu-ching from taking part in international competitions for three years. However, this news was not made public until this month. On Mar. 6, the World Anti-Doping Agency sent a request to the CTOC to publish a list of all Chinese Taipei athletes who are currently banned from competition for positive drug tests and the length of their bans. On Mar. 27, the media discovered that Hsu was on the list. The CTOC says it did not disclose this information out of respect for the privacy of athletes.
We wanted to spare them further harm, so we didn't disclose the information. However, in the future, we will comply with WADA's requests, and we will disclose all names.
According to reports, there are 11 athletes on the list, which must be made public before Apr. 5. In addition to Hsu, weightlifter Lin Tzu-chi is also on the list. She was suspended before the 2016 Summer Olympics for a positive drug test. Last year, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that she had to serve an additional eight-year suspension. The other nine athletes are amateur and college athletes. National team doctor Lin Sung-kai says the athletes are continuously reminded to be very careful with their diets and medication use, but from time to time there are cases of inadvertent doping.
There are too many types of food, some are natural and some are synthetic. Look at Chinese medicine, even though it's natural, there are still some ingredients that can give you a positive drug test result. There are even more examples like this of synthetic food.
Many doping cases have emerged in recent years after the World Anti-Doping Agency developed the "Athlete Biological Passport," which has blood and steroid modules. The CTOC tests athletes every year at different times to avert doping cases.
