Gov't Launches Parking IDs for Pregnant Women|孕婦及六歲以下兒童家長 發放專屬停車證

發布時間: 更新時間:

Good news to mums-to-be and parents! Starting Aug 1, pregnant women and parents with children under six years old will have designated parking spaces in public areas. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications has also printed up 2.35 million parking IDs ready to hand out for parents to place on their windshields. In the future, violators parked in designated parent parking without an ID, will be fined up to NT$1200.

There are cars parked in the pink spaces. Starting Aug. 1, only pregnant women and people with children under six can legally park in the spaces.

Public parking lots and parking lots that are open to the public have to reserve at least 2 percent of their spaces for pregnant women or people with (children) under six. So, they will need to provide some form of proof of identity.

In the past, pregnant women only had to put their Maternal Health Handbook and people with children under six only had to put their Child Healthcare Handbook or national health insurance card in their windshield to use the spots. As these items are sometimes needed at hospitals or clinics, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications decided to issue 2.35 million parking IDs. The IDs will be distributed by municipal governments and health agencies.

I drove around the block for so long and still could not find a parking space. In the end, I found that was so, so far away. And then I had to walk all the way back. My child could not walk that far either and I had carry him. My child is really heavy. I could not carry him that far either. So, of course it is good.

Under child welfare laws, all public parking lots and commercial venues with total floor area of 10,000 square meters or above must provide dedicated parking spaces for pregnant women and people with young children. There will be a one-year buffer period. Violators will face fines of NT$600 to NT$1,200 starting June 29 next year.
