NEW COMPUTER VIRUS ATTACKS UKRAINE, RUSSIA|勒索病毒再肆虐襲歐美 全球逾2千起

Another wave of cyber attack hits major global firms around the world. Companies including Danish shipping giant Maersk, british advertising agency WPP and Russian oil and gas giant Rosneft are all underseige. The attack have shut down IT systems and computer networks of companies across the globe. Numbers show there have been more than 2000 attacks, mostly in Poland, Russia and Ukraine. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant had to monitor radiation levels manually after its Windows-based sensors were shut down. The source of the attack is not yet clear. It is similar to WannaCry, both exploit the same flaw in Windows to spread and both ask victims to pay ransom in Bitcoins to get their systems back online, but there are differences. Security firms worldwide seem to disagree on whether the new ransomeware is a variant of Petya, a known ransomware. Microsoft says it is investigating the matter, as are authorities in the US and Europe. TRANSLATED BY:JEFF CHANG
