Second Problem Found with Government-Funded Flu Vaccines|2款公費流感疫苗疑變質 台中衛生局回收封存

Unidentified suspended material have been found in government-funded children's influenza vaccines manufactured by Taiwanese local company, Adimmune Corporation. This follows the incident of French manufactured influenza vaccine having found to be discolored, causing much concern. The Centers for Disease Control, however, says these problematic vaccines were not administered, and all government-funded vaccines are safe.

Even though two successive issues have emerged with the vaccines used in the government-funded influenza vaccination program, parents were still taking their children to get vaccinated against the flu.

There probably aren't any problems. I think the government can handle it.

This year's government-funded vaccines are supplied by two companies. Recently, a vaccine manufactured by French pharmaceutical Sanofi Pasteur was found to be discolored. Several days later, white-colored suspended matter was found in a vaccine produced by local manufacturer Adimmune Corporation. The Centers for Disease Control says all of the Adimmune Corporation-manufactured vaccines in the same batch as the problematic vaccine have been recalled. It believes both these incidents are isolated cases.

We were allotted 15,000 doses. We administered 6,621 doses as of Oct. 29.

We tested Adimmune Corporation's vaccines individually, and took samples from Sanofi Pasteur's vaccines for tests. We didn't find any similar problems.

All vaccines must be tested and approved by the Food and Drug Administration before they can be administered to the public. According to reports, the FDA only spot tested 190 doses, which account for too small a percentage of the total number of doses.

Every single vaccine is precious, so under these circumstances it is impossible for us to take too many samples. We believe in the homogeneity of the vaccines.

The FDA adds it has already asked the two pharmaceuticals to produce manufacturing reports and propose improvement measures within two weeks' time. The CDC says the two problematic vaccines were not administered, all government-funded vaccines are safe and the public should not panic.
