News just broke that some months ago, Abbott recalled two lots of creatine kinase reagents worldwide. Creatine kinase is a key component in blood tests for muscular dystrophy and myocardial infarction.

(Abbott) proactively notified the affected hospitals in Taiwan on July 23 and proactively issued a recall on the products in question. The affected products are not currently being used in Taiwan, and we have not received any reports of problems.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare says creatine kinase reagents are primarily used by hospitals to diagnose certain diseases. An overseas hospital using Abbott's reagents found they weren't working and immediately notified the company. Abbott then issued a worldwide recall of the reagents on July 18. According to reports, the kits are used by four hospitals in Taiwan but only one of them had them in supply at the time. All 27 of the hospital's kits were recalled. The ministry says it has not yet received any reports of problems.
