New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Hou You-yi will run for New Taipei City mayor post, says the Kuomintang, in the wake of a three-day telephone opinion poll. Former Taipei County Magistrate Chou Hsi-wei conceded defeat, ssaying he would support Hou while another candidate, former New Taipei City Councilor King Chieh-shou, questioned the fairness of the game.

Hou You-yi finished in first place, Chou Hsi-wei in second place and King Chieh-shou in third place.
The Kuomintang recently concluded a three-day telephone opinion poll on its list of candidates for New Taipei City mayor. On Apr. 6, the party announced former New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Hou You-yi had won its primary. Former Taipei County Magistrate Chou Hsi-wei conceded defeat before the party made the announcement.

Losing is losing, and I don't think it matters how much you lose by, because it's the decision of the city's residents. (Will you support Hou from now on?) I think I support whoever is backed by the party.

Chou added the KMT must be united and seek to triumph in the year-end elections. To promote harmony, the party ruled out releasing the results of the opinion poll. Chou said he will not speak about the opinion poll again. However, another candidate, former New Taipei City Councilor King Chieh-shou, had a few things to say about the poll.

Three polls were conducted, and only two were announced, with one still underway. However, there was suddenly a phone call about the result and a press release. I don't understand.

King questioned if the results were leaked ahead of time. When asked if he will work together with Hou, he responded that he wishes him well. Meanwhile, Hou appeared at the New Taipei City Council to attend a KMT rally after the party announced the results.

I felt my responsibility had become greater when the results were announced. I believe the future election campaign will be very difficult. I have to win this campaign and be a good New Taipei City mayor to pay back all the support given to me by New Taipei City residents.

Hou is confident he can win the election. He also hopes he can help to secure a majority for the KMT in the city council.
