It's purple crow butterfly migration season and butterflies are heading north. Some were tagged in January, and one of the butterflies was discovered in Yunlin's Linnei. It flew over 100 kilometers in 66 days. Researchers are delighted about finding the butterfly as it's the first time this has happened in 11 years.
Research volunteers are very excited about this purple crow butterfly. The numbers on its wing are evidence that it migrated from Maolin to Linnei.
This is the person or school's number, while the "127" means Jan. 27. From the date, we know how long it flew.
On Jan. 27 this year, volunteers tagged purple crows in Maolin's Butterfly Valley to track them.
On Apr. 3, researchers found one of the tagged butterflies in Linnei. The 100-plus kilometer journey took the butterfly 66 days.
We have long speculated about butterfly migration routes, but this is the first concrete evidence we have collected in over 10 years. In the past, we assumed they flew here from the south based on what we observed. This butterfly gives us concrete proof of that today.
Volunteers say the next wave of migration will peak in mid-April, with over 200 butterflies per minute expected. The discovery proves purple crows fly north from Maolin, and is a victory for conservation efforts.
