Amazon's cashierless store is considered to be the future of retail. Now Two of Taiwan's largest convenience store chains have also decided to raise their game, announcing new experimental concept stores, where robot arms are used to make coffee, among other things.

Robot Robo welcomes customers into the store. Another robot is busy brewing coffee for a customer. The coffee is ready less than a minute after the customer scans his receipt QR code.

It should be really convenient for workers as well. Our wait time will be shorter, so (customers) will be less likely to get impatient.

The tech concept store also has electronic tags on shelves that allow staff to adjust prices instantaneously. Customers can get product information on their phones and watch product introduction videos on refrigerator doors. Wireless sensors also make moving inventory much easier for store staff.

By our estimates, concept stores will save over 1,000 labor hours per year. We hope the investment in technology will reduce labor and manpower needs over the long term.

Self-checkout services will be rolled out next. This will provide flexibility in the one fixed, one flex era.
