KO CONCERNS WITH EQUALITY AND DIGNITY ON TWIN CITY FORUM|雙城論壇今登場 是否會張志軍 柯:客隨主便

The 2017 Taipei-Shanghai Forum starts today in Shanghai. Yesterday when departing for Shanghai, Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je said that he did not know if he would be meeting with China's Taiwan Affairs Office Minister Zhang Zhijun but said that the guest should adapt to the convenience of the host. He also hoped that there wouldn't be too much emphasis on politics. He said he would be concerned with equality and dignity. The eighth Taipei-Shanghai Forum started on July 1st, which also happens to be the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China. Prior to the visit, Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je was frequently challenged by city councilors, on whether he would make his political stance clear. He was also asked by media if he would have a meeting with China's Taiwan Affairs Office Minister Zhang Zhijun. Ko just said that guest should adapt to the convenience of the host. ==KO WEN-JE Taipei City Mayor== We don't have details of the name list. We didn't intervene with China on arrangements, the guest should adapt to the host's convenience. Actually, even now I don't know, I'm not prevaricating, I just really don't know. After President Tsai Ing-wen took office, cross-strait exchanges have come to a halt. This is the first time since then that there has been a municipal visit to China. Ko previously said that he hoped that this trip, with four mutual foundations, plus a mutual understanding, would help break the deadlock between the two sides. Ko was asked if he would make a pronouncement on the one-China principle or meet with Zhang and said that the theme of the Twin Cities Forum is clearly exchange on issues affecting the two cities, so he would try to avoid discussing political issues. ==KO WEN-JE Taipei City Mayor== The goal of this trip is very clear, we will try to avoid political issues, it's very clear and we will focus on principles of equality and dignity. Ko emphasised that the two cities forum had been started by the previous Taipei City Mayor and there was no reason to discontinue it.
