ANTI-PENSION GROUPS PROTEST AT LEGISLATIVE YUAN AS BILL ON AGENDA|軍公教立院外抗議年改 一度癱瘓交通

Pension reform is now officially on the agenda for the Legislative Yuan's extraordinary session. Speaker Su Chia-Chyuan convened the party caucuses for a consult on the reform bill on June 15, but no consensus could be reached on many provisions, including the income floor for pensioners. Civil service pensioner groups protested outside of the Legislative Yuan this afternoon, threatening to protest wherever President Tsai goes if the DPP government insists on the reform. ==Ns== Civil servant pensioner groups protested outside the Legislative Yuan in the heavy rain, furious that pension reform is on the agenda for the legislature's extraordinary session. Representatives took the stage slamming the DPP's hardline attitude and threatening to protest wherever President Tsai goes. ==LI LAI-HSI Chair, Civil Servants Association== We will be anywhere President Tsai Ing-wen goes. President Tsai, do you want to remain as president in the next three years? Don't isolate yourself and build up barricades between the communicating channel with the public. As the crowd outside the Legislative Yuan grew, some protestors occupied Zhongxiao West Road and blocked passing cars, resulting in a major traffic jam. A major police presence was maintained in the protest site. Inside the legislature, the caucuses discussed substantive issues regarding pension reform. Though roadblocks had been set up around the building, no protestors tried to stop the legislators from entering. Speaker Su Chia-chyuan said that negotiations should be complete on at least 20 articles of the bills under consideration. ==KER CHIEN-MING DPP Caucus Convener== Both sides have a point. Perhaps more of a consensus can be reached in a second round of discussions. ==HUANG KUO-CHANG Legislator, New Power Party== The government should shoulder the responsibility (of paying for maternity leave). This will be an important for many young people who are daunted by having children. When on maternity leave, the days should be included in the years of service. On the other hand, when on leave, there is no income. Therefore, the government should provide support and pay for the labor insurance. Though the parties were calm and reasoned in their discussions, no consensus has been reached regarding the income floor for pensioners as well as maternity and paternity leave pay. The DPP caucuses said that the consult will continue tomorrow and that provisions for which no consensus can be reached will be put to a floor vote.
