PRESIDENT TSAI PROMOTES FLIPP IN THE SOUTH|總統下鄉宣傳前瞻 首站先到台南

Next week the Legislative Yuan will hold an ad hoc session and President Tsai Ing-wen issued an order that the Forward-Looking Infrastructure Development Project must be passed. She wanted all government ministries mobilised to step up promotion of the projects. Yesterday she traveled to Tainan and was accompanied by Tainan City Mayor William Lai. Not only does the opposition object to the plan, but her own party's political figures are calling for more detailed discussion. President Tsai made a visit to the south with media in attendance to promote the so-called forward-looking infrastructure projects plan. Her first stop was at the Baihe Reservoir to see construction there. ==TSAI ING-WEN R.O.C. President== We want to strengthen water control in flood-prone areas, including improvement of drainage systems, these are all necessary projects, we are determined to undertake these and we hope the legislators in the Yuan, no matter from which party, will support them. As 60 percent of the Baihe Reservoir is silted up, the water management improvement project needs to be speeded up. Under the forward-looking infrastructure projects, NT$3.7 billion has been allocated for the final stages of the project. President Tsai Ing-wen said that this is a long-term battle. Tainan City Mayor William Lai further remarked that the forward-looking infrastructure projects plan must pass as it is as necessary as rain. ==WILLIAM LAI Tainan City Mayor== The FLIPP is like a timely shower of rain. I hope that our Tainan citizens support this and all citizens support this otherwise the heavy rain that we saw on June 2, which flooded Taipei, will happen here too. The FLIPP must be passed. The legislative yuan's ad hoc session is about to get underway and the opposition is fighting to boycott the budget for FLIPP and many NGOs and former DPP officials have stood up and asked for more detailed clarification and adjustments. However, President Tsai personally went to the south supported by Lai, showing her determination to pass the plans.
