3 US AIRCRAFT CARRIERS TO ENTER SEA OF JAPAN|美國三艘航母往朝鮮半島集結 歷來罕見

To prove North Korea has the real thing, a massive military parade was held in Pyongyang with some never-before-seen weapons. Missiles, of course, are a part of the troop review, which are said to have ranges that can reach Guam, Hawaii, and even the US mainland. On the other hand, three US aircraft carriers will sail across the Sea of Japan next week to increase pressure on Pyongyang and urge its leader to engage in restraint. For the first time in a year and a half, Pyongyang was the site of a major military parade. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and other high-ranking officials were all in attendance. The parade showcased North Korea's distinctive goose-step and a variety of heavy weaponry, but the main focus of international observers was the ballistic missiles on display. ==HIROSHI TAKANO Korean Peninsula News Chief, NHK== This missile is white in color and known as "North Star" in Korean. It is an SLBM, a submarine-launched ballistic missile. North Korea successfully conducted an underwater launch of the missile in May 2015, and one of these missiles traveled a distance of 500 kilometers last August, showing an enormous performance increase. North Korea has also been discovered to have gained cold launch capabilities, allowing the rocket engine to be lit only after the missile is ejected from its container. This is a major step in its military development. ==HIROSHI TAKANO == This missile was launched for the first time this February. The South Korean military said that it reached a height of 550 kilometers before landing in the Sea of Japan 500 kiloemters to the east. The missiles on large trailers, like the missiles that have been displayed on large trucks previously, are all likely to be capable of an attack on American bases in the west Pacific. As tensions have risen in the Korean Peninsula, the US has re-directed the USS Carl Vinson, which was originally planned to visit Australia, to waters around North Korea. It is expected to enter the Sea of Japan on Apr. 25. The USS Nimitz, originally deployed on the US west coast, will also be deployed to Northeast Asia as soon as it completes its current round of training. An NHK news report said that, though some of these long-range missiles have yet to be successfully tested, North Korea does have the solid-state rocket fuel necessary to launch them. North Korea also has mobile launch platforms for these missiles, making it difficult for the US, Japan, or South Korea to target or destroy them pre-emptively.
