The first policy forum for KMT chair candidates took place on Apr. 10. Five candidates were present but the current Party Chair Hung Hsiu-Chu decided not to attend. The policy meeting itself focussed on how to raise party support. The KMT legislative caucus held the first party chair candidates' policy forum. The five candidates were all present, but Party Chair Hung Hsiu-chu was absent. Calculations for candidacy are informed by the prospect of the 2018 county magistrate and mayoral elections as well as the 2020 presidential election. ==PAN WEI-GANG frmr. KMT legislator== Although the party chair position is important, the 2020 elections are key, but if we don't win in the 2018 elections, there will be no 2020, we have to win back at least 3 of the six capital cities. ==HAU LUNG-PIN KMT Vice Chair== In 2018 we have to take at least two cities, especially Taipei City, as the capital, I think that I can openly admit that if we don't take Taipei City in 2018, if I were KMT Chair, I would have to resign. == STEVE CHAN former KMT vice chair== We can't go back to the past, where there was an imbalance between support in the north and south, we need to have power in the south and our election strategy should not just be about county magistrates and city mayors, we need to have power in local government. ==HAN KUO-YU Frmr. During the two and a half hour session, the candidates stated their own policy, and also answered questions from party legislators, on topics ranging from the cross-strait mid-line, the party's fund-raising ability and party reform. Hung was the only candidate who decided no to attend the first policy meeting.
